Exploring Atlanta’s Famous Sites
30 января 2011
As if there weren’t enough reasons to lay down roots in Atlanta: Consider all of the world-class sites which entertain, amaze and educate million of visitors and residents alike each year:
Piedmont Park
Piedmont Park is the epitome of the ultimate, urban park. One hundred eighty-five acres of green space, dotted with playgrounds and baseball fields, along with a picturesque lake, has provided residents and visitors alike with a respite from the city since 1909. Originally the scene of the Gentleman’s Driving Club in the late 19th century, Piedmont Park has a long history in Atlanta.
Frederick L. Olmsted was an influential landscape designer who was first involved in the area in 1895, when it was used as the site of the Cotton States and International Exposition fair. It was then sold to the city of Atlanta in 1904. At that point, the city removed the exposition buildings and, under the watchful eye of the Olmsted Brothers architectural firm, began to evolve the park into what is seen by millions of visitors each year.
The Olmsted Brothers incorporated the then-existing stone stairways and handsome, stone urns to create transitions between the different areas of the park. Much of the landscapes and vistas of that time remain today, offering residents and visitors a truly beautiful area in which to relax, picnic or participate in outdoor activities.
Martin Luther King Jr. Historical Site
A trip to Atlanta is never complete without first visiting the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic Site. This area, which includes a visitor center and is administered by the National Park Service, includes King’s birth home, his church and his grave. Set along several blocks in downtown Atlanta, the Historical Site pays tribute to one of the nation’s most prominent leaders of the twentieth century.
Part of the site includes the Ebenezer Baptist Church where King once served as pastor, his childhood home on Auburn Avenue and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change, Inc., which today continues King’s legacy and work.
A memorial park was erected in 1976 to honor King, which includes his marble crypt, an arch-covered walkway, a chapel and a reflecting pool.
Centennial Olympic Park
In 1996, Atlanta served as host for the Centennial Olympic Games. It was at that time that the city took a run-down park and transformed it into a beautiful gathering spot where recreation is enjoyed and where community events are held each year.
The estimated $75 million project was accomplished through private sector donations alone. The State of Georgia oversaw the park’s development and assumed ownership after the Olympic Games.
This grand park of 21 acres serves not only as Georgia’s lasting legacy to the Centennial Olympic Games, but as a showpiece for the revitalization movement in Atlanta.
The Park sponsors community-wide free events, including the Fourth of July Celebration, Wednesday Wind Down concert series and Fourth Saturday Family Fun Days. The park also hosts festivals, fundraisers and private events. An estimated three million people visit this area each year.
Georgia Aquarium
Billed as the “world’s largest aquarium,” the Georgia Aquarium contains a staggering 8.1 million gallons of marine and fresh water and more than 100,000 animals.
The aquarium was originally built on a 20-acre patch of land in downtown Atlanta in 2005, north of Centennial Olympic Park. The largest donation to the aquarium came from Home Depot founder Bernie Marcus, in the form of $250 million.
The Georgia Aquarium is one of only two aquariums in the US to house a Great Hammerhead Shark and was only one of a handful of aquariums to house five, 11-foot beluga whales.
The aquarium’s five different galleries include the Georgia Explorer, Tropical Diver, Ocean Voyager, Cold- Water Quest, and River Scout, with each corresponding to a specific environment.
The Georgia Aquarium, in addition to serving as a one-of-a-kind aquarium, is also devoted to conservation and environmental missions.
Movie Directors Can Rely on the Master Shot
30 января 2011
An old school director of photography shared a filmmaking pearl of wisdom that has stuck with me before ever shooting my first movie scene. They said no matter what kind of amazing camera shot I might want to experiment with as a movie director (I call it a “wonder shot”) always shoot a simple master shot. Avoid getting too fancy or cute with it.
He advised me to always film a take or two using a master shot in case your “wonder shot” does not work out. A master shot is used to cover most or all of a scene including actors. It can be as straightforward as locking the camera down on a tripod for a static shot. Or going hand held with the camera to follow the action. You will not get close up details of a scene, but a master shot guarantees you will have the entire scene covered for post-production.
Knowing you have a master shot gives you much more flexibility as a filmmaker to be creative, take chances, and experiment with a scene with the rest of the takes you have time for. During the shooting of my first movie I used a few “wonder shots” hoping they would turn out as I envisioned them. I dreaded the thought of being in post-production when the editor informs me that a scene could not be cut together or was unusable.
I am always a bit nervous after filming a show because I know post-production will reveal any mistakes made during production. Nothing is perfect when making movies. What an independent movie director hopes to avoid at all costs is reshoot days. I work with indie film budgets that rarely allow for reshoots. What I get the first time during filming is what has to be edited. There usually is not enough money to go back to reshoot a scene to fix a problem.
Sure some of the “wonder shots” I have chose to shoot scenes did not turn out like I had hoped. A few of the calls I made as a director just did not work. What saved the day? The master shots that were simple and not fancy.
It turns out that the master shots I thought I would never use in post-production (because surely all my “wonder shots” would work) did the job when ever there was editing issues. The editor was able to use the master shots to replace my “wonder shots” and keep the show on track during final edit.
The other side of the story is some of the “wonder shots” I had taken chances on worked beautifully. There is nothing like hearing an editor say, “great camera angles” or “loved the way you shot that scene.” The editor’s mind is now free from having to wrestle with a scene to make it work. Instead they have shots they can edit into a visually strong scene.
Master shots are not sexy or glamorous, but they can become a lifeboat for a movie director when it becomes clear in post-production a camera move just did not work. On an indie film budget it is important for a movie director to cover all the scenes as much as possible. Indie filmmakers that cover a scene one way reduce their options. Do not ever shy away from shooting a “wonder shot”, but balance it with a master shot to cover your rear in post-production. This is indie filmmaker Sid Kali typing JUMP CUT.
Big Mountain - Baby I Love Your Way (Lyrics)
30 января 2011
Big Mountain - Baby I Love Your Way I DO NOT OWN THE RIGHTS FOR THIS SONG I AM JUST SHARING IT Lyrics: oh Baby I love your way Everyday, yeah Shadows grow so long before my eyes, and they’re moving across the page. Suddenly the day turns into night, Far away from the city. But don’t, ho no, hesitate, ’cause your love just won’t wait Ooh Baby I love your way. Everyday, yeah yeah Wanna tell you I love your way. Everyday yeah yeah Wanna be with you night and day. Moon appears to shine and light the sky With the help of some firefly. Wonder how they have the power to shine, Shine, shine, shine, I can see them under the pine. But don’t, ho no, hesitate, ’cause your love just won’t wait Ooh baby I love you way. Everyday, yeah yeah Wanna tell you I love your way. Everyday, yeah yeah I wanna be with you night and day. Oh baby, oh baby please, Everyday, yeah, I will love, I will love ya, I love your way, ooh baby, please I can see the sunset in your eyes, Brown and grey, and blue besides. Clouds are stalking islands in the sun. I wish I could buy one, out of season. Oh don’t hesitate, ’cause your love just won’t wait (just won’twait) Ooh baby I love your way (every, everyday) I wanna tell you I love your way I wanna be with you night and day (Everyday, every way) Ooh baby I love your way(Ooh baby, ow, I love your little way) I wanna tell I love your way I wanna be with you night and day (until fade)

The Undercover Bed Cover - 7 Things to Know
29 января 2011
A tilt up tonneau cover has several advantages. With a hard truck bed liner that tilts up, you get a huge lockable trunk. It’s really handy for many ways you use your pickup. The undercover bed cover is better at least 7 ways. It’s partly because of the material used to make it, but there’s more.
1. Easy Price.
The Undercover tonneau cover is very moderate in price. It looks like an expensive cover, but it’s priced far less than many others. You get high tech materials at an easy price.
2. Sleek Styled Contour.
You get a race truck look with a sleek contour with the Undercover design. Plus you get a perfect fit back around the tailgate too.
3. 58 Pounds.
That’s 58 pounds for a full size truck. Easy to haul around and easy to install too.
4. Tougher And More Impact Resistant.
Modern polymers are light weight, tough and impact resistant too. Plus these covers aren’t likely to crack like fiberglass either. Built to last and take abuse.
5. Easy On And Off.
Sometimes you may want the bed cover off the truck. With many hard truck covers, that’s a real chore. This cover is made for easy installation and removal. Plus the weight makes it easy to move around too.
6. Weather Tight.
Includes metal mounting rails and special seals for a weather tight fit.
7. Easy Storage System.
Again, this cover is made for easy removal. It even includes a special storage system to use in your garage. It’s easy to store as well as easy to remove. That’s a plus.
An Undercover Bed Cover was the first tilt cover made with modern polymers. That makes it tough as well as light. That way you can not only install it easily, you can remove it easily too. It’s weighs only 58 pounds for a full size truck.
Sometimes (I Wish) - City And Colour
29 января 2011
Over the past few months, I’ve been getting more calls about the possibility of using one of my rear window graphics as a decal for truck tailgates. Is it possible? What’s the scoop?
Rear window graphics are actually printed on mechanically perforated vinyl. The piece of vinyl is 50% solid and 50% holes!
How do rear window decals work? First, lets talk about these see-through graphics from the observer, outside of the vehicle. The eyes of humans absorb the light that is reflected from an object. Someone standing outside of your car or truck, only sees the light reflected from the image. The holes can’t be seen; thus, the graphic looks solid.
From the inside of the truck or car, things are different. The graphic is added to the outside of the back glass. And the sticky side of the vinyl (that sticks to the rear window) is black. Looking out from inside the vehicle, our eyes absorb the light reflected from objects outside — trees, cars, people.
Our eyes combine the black vinyl with the images we see, creating an illusion that there is nothing on your window!
Graphics are applied to the outside of a window. Window tints have no effect on back glass graphics. Rear glass defrosters, because they heat the inside glass, will also have no effect on the decals.
How are Decals Applied to Tailgates Different from Rear Window Graphics?
Decals added to the painted surfaces of a vehicle are completely different! They are solid sheet vinyl, laminated to ensure the long life of the image.
If a rear window graphic was applied to a truck’s tailgate, everyone could see all those tiny holes! Thus, the image would be broken up by millions of holes.
Therefore…
If you want something for your rear glass, you will need perforated vinyl. Total obstruction of the rear window is illegal in most states!
If you want an image for the surface of your truck (or other vehicle), you will need solid sheet vinyl.
Note: Be sure to check state and local laws regarding back glass graphics before ordering. Some communities have more strict regulations than counties and states.

Finding the Bioluminescent Bay: Endangered Bahia La Parguera
28 января 2011
Shimmering Bahia La Parguera is anything but easy to find. A series of narrow roads careen around mountain corners through wild southwestern Puerto Rico where jungle houses dangle from cliffs and none of the streets have names. Despite my reasonably proficient navigation skills, I’m pretty sure we have passed the same intersection three times. We stop. I check my map again, “I think it’s that way.”
I’m not lost. I just don’t know if it’s possible to get where I want to go. Perhaps the glow-in-the-dark bay simply doesn’t want to be found. But I am determined. I abandon my misleading directions and follow my instincts. With the orange evening wash in the sky to the right, we head south and finally, as the sun plunges seaward, we descend from the hills into a village that hugs the shore.
Most of the shops are closed. It isn’t tourist season yet. We park in a muddy lot and amble along the sidewalk peeking in dusty windows at tailored cotton clothing and pharmaceutical items while keeping an eye out for the pier. Twilight has fallen. I think we are heading the wrong direction. Incandescence spills into the street from the open door of a restaurant. We stop and order empanadillas stuffed with pulpa (octopus) and onions. The owner, a gentle man, refills our rum and cokes himself and gives us the inside scoop on where to find a boat.
An hour later, we are standing in the dark on the end of a dock. Bungalows on stilts stretch out along the bank and warm light from living rooms dances across the water. A handful of intrepid travelers join us as we duck into a fiberglass tour-boat. Soon we are skimming through twisted mangroves and past islets where ghostly white herons nest by the fifties in the trees.
We pass under a leafy arch and swing into a secluded cove. The captain kills the motor and then douses the light. My eyes begin to adjust. Clouds shift over the stars in a moonless sky. The water is black.
We are here to see a bioluminescent bay. I am not sure what to expect. Maybe the whole surface of the deep will begin to glow at any moment, illuminated by a billion microscopic dinoflagellates. I wait, almost holding my breath. Then, to my surprise, our young first mate, Alejandro, pulls off his t-shirt and slips into the sea.
A blue shimmering, a swirling watery stardust follows his every stroke. I am transfixed. I understand why the list of Marine Protected Areas of the United States includes this bahia. It is a treasure, a rare sparkling gem. As I witness the gossamer show, I reflect on the splendid diversity of our bright-blue planet. I am also aware that waterway overuse has already reduced the twinkling phenomenon and I hope that solutions will be found and the bioluminescence will survive for generations to come. Maybe, in the long run, it’s a good thing it isn’t easy to find La Parguera. I thought there was something wrong with my map. Maybe it works just fine.
Information Please
GETTING THERE
Fly into Rafael Hernandez Airport (BQN) in Aguadilla. It is on the west side of Puerto Rico and offers easier access to La Parguera. Prices are comparable to San Juan.
Driving Directions to La Parguera-Follow Interstate PR 2E down the coast go 29 km. Turn right onto CII Los Velez and immediately turn left onto PR 114 go 13.6 km. Turn…Oh, just check out the Google Maps Link. I know it sounds complicated and it looks like it might be easier to stay on the interstate a little longer and then go through town. It isn’t. The streets are not labeled and you will wander in circles. Trust Google and you’ll get there. Trust me. It’s worth the trip.
THE BIOLUMINESCENT BAY
Just like most places in Puerto Rico, if you want to go out on the bay, just go down to the pier around sunset and look for Johnny’s Boats. Things are pretty casual and you should expect to wait. But no worries, you are on Island time!
WHEN TO GO
It’s definitely best to go in the early evening on a moonless night. As long as it’s not raining, the boats run all year.
WHERE TO STAY
Villa Parguera is right on the water and hosts live Latin bands on Saturday nights.
Inexpensive La Jamaca Guest House is just a short walk from the water.
WHERE TO EAT
Best advice…look for the crowds. Wherever you see a bunch of locals, you know it’s a good spot.
MORE FUN STUFF
Go scuba diving or snorkeling with West Divers. Dive on the La Parguera Wall. It drops a thousand feet to the sea floor!
Go deep-sea fishing and catch blue marlin, tuna, wahoo, grouper, dorado, jacks, barracuda. Again, just head down to the pier. Ask for Captain Mickey, a marine biologist who really knows his stuff.

spiritlibrary.com The Elemental Synthesis, March 2010; Beloved Family of Light, in this last acceleration of the Light Frequencies, you have experienced many extremes of weather and earth conditions and movements. There has been chaos in the Elemental Realms as the energies have surged between the Cosmic Heart, the Solar Heart and the Earth itself. The Elementals have responded in their own way with a desire to cleanse and heal and celebrate. But, Beloved Ones, we would suggest most kindly that it is time that more of you took up your responsibilities as Earth Keepers and entered into partnerships and working relationships with Nature and the Elemental energies. At the March Equinox of 2009, you celebrated the Elemental Reconnection that would allow you to co-create the New Earth in partnership with the Elementals and with Nature. But, so few of you are as yet working with that partnership. In the New Earth, you will find Oneness with plants, animals, minerals, as well as fellow humans. Your gifts of communication and healing will be exercised in partnership with these other beings who share the planet. Beloveds, each one of you can create what we call a “biosphere”, even in your own home however small that is. This is a “sphere” of energy that is devoted to your relationship with plants, animals and minerals.
